Within the context of the 200th anniversary of the battle of Iena,
a bivouac is in project for 2006.
Within the context of the bicentenary of the birth of the Empire (1804-2004), a Napoleon bivouac, in the age 1813, life size was organized by the 85th line infantry regiment reconstituted, on the domain Mandarin Napoleon, with the partnership of the city of Seclin.
After the disastrous campaign of Russia in 1812, Napoleon needed to mobilize a new Grande Armée with new conscripts:
« The Marie Louises » was created to face the 5th European nations coalition (Russia, Prussia, Sweden and Austria), who, with the financial help of England, wanted to finish with the French domination on Europe. So the destiny of the Napoleon Empire was played on this month of October 1813, on the German plain.
Conscious of disfavour of the forces and the imminence of the battle, Napoleon called back the experimented contingent dispersed in the reserve battalions, in the entire empire, to resist against this 5th coalition. (The famous « battle of the nations » took place on October 16th until October 18th, 1813, in Leipzig)
The 85th line infantry regiment and his artillery on the way to Germany, installed their camp on the Napoleon domain in Seclin, this October 9th and 10th..
This group of historical reconstruction of a line infantry regiment (1st company from the 1st battalion in uniform 1812) will welcome you and will reveal the activities (and works) of the Napoleon Grande Armée soldiers at this time: the camp, the daily life, the food, the uniform and regulation clothes, the weapons, the training (infantry and artillery training shoots), the health department and also a skirmish to reconstitute the battle fight.
During this week-end, the bivouac is open to everyone for free (scholar, public…) between 10a.m to 7p.m on Saturday, and from 10a.m to 4.30p.m on Sunday. As well this week-end, inside the reception lounge of the domain Mandarin Napoleon, the historical game club of Faches-Thumesnil, the Nerviens, will organize a reconstruction of the famous battle of the Nations in Leipzig (October 16th to 18th, 1813), and will present you all the belligerents in tin figurines of 15 mm scale.
